April: Home Theater Project

Home Theater Project:

Jp's parents came out to help us with a major home project. Jp had been dreaming of having a media room since we bought the house. With his sabbatical, he had the extra time to make it happen. It took a lot longer than expected, and turned out even better than imagined!!

Above is our family room before any construction had begun.

Wiring was a pain. Sheet rock was removed; hundreds of feet (felt like thousands) of wire was then threaded through the ceiling and beams in the garage to the future site of the component closet.
Here is a look at the room mid-way through the project.

Here's our customized component rack we got from Ikea.

Jp literally walking through the hole cut into the wall that will eventually house the component rack.

Jp's dad framing in the media closet in the garage.

Jp's dad and I are putting the door in the media closet.

The finished component rack. It's complete with drawers and set up higher to discourage little fingers from pushing buttons.

When the screen is up, no-one would would know the room transforms into a theater room.

The finished project: a 135 diagonal inch screen, 7 speaker surround sound system, ceiling mounted projector, room darkening curtains, component rack, hours of sweat equity and loads of entertainment!!

Wow! This brings back memories of the sweat equity we put in helping you do this project! Can't wait to experience it when we come for Thanksgiving!
