Dog Fight

Sunday night (1/2 hour after Jp headed to the airport) while I was taking Linus for a walk, he was attacked by a HUGE golden retriever/boxer dog. (It escaped from its backyard through a broken fence.) It was loud and terrifying!! Luckily my friend Alison was with me. She helped pull/fight off the attacking dog while I pulled Linus out. It could have been much worse...the dog could have gone after Alison's little boy Jens, or turned on one of us.

Linus sustained some injuries and I had to take him to the emergency vet clinic about 20 minutes away. I was afraid the inside of his ear canal was injured; possibly affecting his hearing and also of infection setting in. His right ear has some abrasions all over the flap and inside, there is a scrape on the top of his head and a fairly deep puncture on the left side of his face. The vet told me the puncture goes down through the muscle layer of his face. Poor dog!!

Well, 1.5 hrs and $300+ dollars later Linus was discharged. He is now on painkillers, antibiotics, and anti-inflammatory medication each to be administed twice daily for 10 days. In addition to the meds, I have to apply a hot compress twice daily and antibiotic topical ointment as well. He is not a happy camper right now.

Tuesday he started itching his face and ear which negated the healing that was started to occur. He started to bleed a little bit again, so I had to buy him an E-collar to prevent it. He absolutely hates wearing it as he keeps running into the wall, floor and everything else in his path. Hopefully he will get used to it soon. Below I have posted some pictures our sweet pup.

As you can see, he is humiliated to be wearing the E-collar.

Here you can see a little bit of his injuries. (This picture doesn't do them justice, but you get a small idea of what happened.) His ear is much worse inside and only slightly scratched on the flap part. The pink part on the opposite side of his head has been shaved around the puncture, you can barely see the it here.

Here he is resting.

I like this picture because it shows the large radius of protection around his head. No wonder he keeps running into things...at least he can't scratch his head.

A view from behind...

What a cute little dog. At least he can still smile through it all!

Wow, poor Linus, I hope you make them pay for it! That mean dog would have probably eaten my little doggies for lunch!
